Training events in Spring 2017

From 1st March 2017 to 31st May 2017
Time: 10:00-13:00
Location: Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee

Clan Childlaw are running a series of training events throughout March, April and May on topics including the Children's Hearing system, children in the family, the UNCRC in Practice and Throughcare.

Children's Hearings

Suitable for those with some or no experience of the children's hearings system, this course gives an understanding of the system, so that delegates will be better equipped to explain to the children and families involved what is happening and what to expect. The course will cover referral processes, investigations, the role of the reporter, grounds of referral, children's hearings, sheriff court proofs, supervision requirements and emergency procedures in an interactive session.

Children in the Family

Suitable for anyone working with children or their families, or in the field of child law, this course looks at what parental rights and responsibilities are and how they apply in practice. The interactive course uses case studies to explore the application of these rights and responsibilities in contact and residence actions, and examines how they fit in with the rights of a child. The course considers how a child's views are taken in court actions and when it is appropriate for a child to instruct a lawyer.

UNCRC in Practice

Suitable for anyone working with children, or in the field of child law, this session aims to raise the awareness of the rights of children and young people. It has been widely recognised that children and young people have a relatively low awareness of their rights and yet a comparatively high rate of success in terms of vindicating their rights. This course is part of our national promotion and awareness-raising around the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), especially relevant at the moment given the new reporting duties introduced by the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 in relation to UNCRC. The interactive course examines the development of children's rights and the recognition of children's rights and responsibilities in Scots Law.

This course will consider what provisions young people are entitled to and when, using case studies and group discussion.
