Defending Children’s Human Rights in Scotland: Where Are We Now?

11th May 2018
Time: 10am-3:30pm
Location: 29 Royal Exchange Square, Glagsow, G1 3AJ

Clan Childlaw is hosting a conference to celebrate its 10th anniversary which will focus on children and young people's human rights and will feature a range of speakers including the Commissioner for Children and Young People and Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

The conference will aim to reflect on some of the human rights issues that the organisation has encountered in their work as lawyers for children and young people and will look forward to future challenges in making the law work better for children and young people.

As well as the Children's Commissioner and MSYPs, speakers will also include representatives from Clan Childlaw, Dr Aoife Daly, Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool Law School, and Juliet Harris, Director of Together. There will be interactive workshops for delegates to explore how the sector can work to defend children's rights in Scotland. Workshop themes include

  • Care Leavers' Legal Rights
  • Looked After Children: Maintaining Sibling Links
  • Children's Hearings: Current Issues including Disclosure
  • Hearing Children in Court: Article 12 and beyond
