    Together has been working closely with our members and supporters to develop our approach for our State of Children's Rights Report 2024. Between October – December 2023, we conducted a series of interviews with 11 organisations to support early planning around methodologies and resources. Since February 2024, we have been working closely with five organisations as part of a ‘Development Phase’ engaging with babies, children and young people and providing feedback on our draft facilitator and child-friendly resources, which will be used to support this next phase.

  • Scottish Parliament to consult on Age of Marriage

  • Northern Ireland governing bodies fail to consider children and young people’s rights in budget allocation

     The Children’s Law Centre is challenging the Equality Commission over advice provided to relevant authorities in connection with the 2023-24 budget set by Secretary of State Chris Heaton-Harris. This budget, implemented in the absence of a Stormont Executive, involved significant cuts to education and school funding.

  • Participation of civil society organisations in UN treaty review processes at risk

    It is no longer mandatory for the UN to provide online participation for official UN meetings, including those held by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, which will limit the direct participation of civil society organisations, children and young people in the UN Treaty Review process. The International Service for Human Rights has gathered over 220 signatures from civil society organisations including Together, endorsing a letter that advocates for ensuring live online mechanisms of participation are maintained.

  • International Court of Justice makes judgement in South Africa v. Israel case

    South Africa presented its case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), alleging Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The Order of 26 January 2024 by the International Court of Justice established that there is a real and imminent risk of irreparable damage to some of the rights asserted by South Africa and instructed Israel to prevent its military from committing acts which might be considered genocidal, to prevent and punish incitement to genocide, and to enable humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

  • Council of Europe publishes draft Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights

  • Royal assent for UNCRC Bill!

    On the 16th of January 2024, royal assent was granted for the UNCRC Bill meaning its now officially an Act!  Most of its provisions will come into force in six months’ time (16th July 2024).

  • Attitudes to human rights in Scotland

    People in Scotland are more likely to support human rights than not and are increasingly worried about having fewer human rights, according to new research published by the Scottish Human Rights Commission. The Commission asked public opinion specialists YouGov to carry out research to investigate public attitudes towards human rights in Scotland and published these results for Human Rights Day.

  • Letter to First Minister of Scotland to increase Scottish Child Payment
