Together has been working closely with our members and supporters to develop our approach for our State of Children's Rights Report 2024. Between October – December 2023, we conducted a series of interviews with 11 organisations to support early planning around methodologies and resources. Since February 2024, we have been working closely with five organisations as part of a ‘Development Phase’ engaging with babies, children and young people and providing feedback on our draft facilitator and child-friendly resources, which will be used to support this next phase.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has issued almost 200 recommendations to the UK and Scottish Government following its review of their children’s rights records last month.

These issues require the attention of the Human Rights Council as they are, or potentially are, incompatible with international human rights law. Freedom of expression, freedom of association, and the right to peaceful assembly are just some of the human rights they place at risk.

Together has signed Amnesty’s joint statement on the UN Secretary-General’s fourth biennial report on the status of the treaty body system. This joint statement urges Member States to take practical steps, including ensuring sustainable funding, towards a better co-ordinated review calendar of all state parties’ implementation of their human rights obligations.

The OHCHR has published a statement made by Chair of the Committee on Rights of the Child, Mikiko Otani, who spoke in October on the importance of promoting a child rights-based approach, child rights mainstreaming, and revealed that there are no reports left to be reviewed under the Convention.

A new report has been shared with the United Nations which sets out the extent to which human rights are being upheld across the UK. This is part of the Universal Periodic Review process – where countries who are part of the United Nations review each other’s progress on putting human rights into practice.
