The Doran Review: Report and Scottish Government response

The Doran Review Report sets out the strategic vision for provision for children and young people with complex additional support needs in Scotland.

The review report sets out the findings and recommendations for provision across four themed areas; Culture, Complex Additional Support Needs and Expertise, Policy Choice and Learning Experiences, Interagency Working, Planning and Review, and National and Local Provision and the Role of the Scottish Government.

Children with complex additional support needs will have access to high quality services delivered where possible in their community. This is one of the main recommendations in the Doran Review (published on 13 November) to provide the best opportunities for children in Scotland with complex additional support needs.

The main findings of the review are:

• The good practice in existing services should be more widely shared.
• Increased strategic commissioning of specialist services for those with complex additional support needs.
• Strong partnership must be maintained to deliver reform of the sector between 2012 and 2017.

The Scottish Government released a publication titled 'Meeting the needs of Scotland's children and young people with complex additional support needs.' This document sets out the response to the Doran Review and makes 21 recommendations across four themed areas, with a response to each of these.
