All children in Scotland have a right to protection from poverty, social exclusion and inequality. Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) requires governments to ensure that every child has their rights fulfilled as set out in the Convention, without discrimination of any kind. Article 27 of the UNCRC obliges government to recognise the right of every child to a standard of living adequate for the child's physical, mental, moral and social development.
