Together continues to campaign to save the Human Rights Act. Get up to speed by reading these briefings.

Together has produced two briefings – one for adults and another for children. Our members told us that it was easy to get confused between the human rights developments taking place in Scotland and those taking place at Westminster. Our briefings respond to this call, setting out the basics of what’s happening with the Human Rights Act (UK/Westminster) and what’s happening with plans for a new Human Rights Bill for Scotland.

The British Institute for Human Rights (BIHR) has produced a more detailed briefing setting out its concerns about repealing the Human Rights Act and replacing it with a Bill of Rights. The briefing is clear that the Bill of Rights is in fact a “Rights Removal Bill”.

If you’d like to share your views on why it’s important to protect the Human Rights Act, please respond to the Joint Committee on Human Rights’ survey and call for evidence. The deadline is 26th August 2022.

The second reading of the Bill is expected to take place on 12th September.
