The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) shared a new resource on their work with and for children’s rights.

This resource explains that children’s rights are legal promises that governments have made under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) to ensure that every person under 18 can grow up happy, healthy and safe. It gives examples of rights like the right to education, health, protection from harm, fairness, and being heard. The OHCHR works to promote and protect these rights by:

  • Including children’s rights in laws, policies, and plans at national and international levels.

  • Writing reports and organising meetings to inform decision-makers and shape action.

  • Working with governments, experts, organisations, and children themselves to strengthen protections.

  • Providing training, guidance, and educational materials about children’s rights.

  • Listening to and involving children in discussions and decisions that affect them

  • Providing child-friendly versions of reports so that children can easily access information about their rights

This resource is useful for anyone working with children and young people, and those who want to inform themselves about children’s rights or help others learn about them.
