A new storybook, titled ‘Welcome to the Highlands of Scotland’, has been co-created by children and young people from Drakies Primary School in Inverness. The children played an active role in creating the book, writing the story, designing the pages and producing the illustrations. The resource aims to help young children develop a sense of connection and belonging as they prepare to move into nursery or early primary school.
A Message from children and young people
“Hello, would you like to see our amazing book we’ve made? The book is designed for children from Armed Forces families who live all over the world, for example in America or Europe or the UK and they might be moving to the Highlands of Scotland. Little children might find this book helpful because they might be anxious about moving. This story might help them feel less scared and happier. We’ve written it and illustrated it. We did some voices because if someone is little it will help them understand and also it means you know we made it all. We think the book is helpful so kids from Armed Forces families won’t feel left out when they are moving to the Highlands of Scotland. Please tell us how you feel about this book and if you have any questions.”
