xUNCRC, children’s rights and preventing homelessness for children and care leavers
Date: 30th March 2025
Time: 11:00 - 13:00
Location: Online
This event will explore how organisations and professionals can adopt a children’s rights-based approach to housing to ensure Scotland meets its commitment to protecting young people from homelessness.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) was officially incorporated into Scots law in July 2024, strengthening the rights of children and young people, including those at risk of homelessness. This means public authorities must respect, protect, and fulfil children’s rights, including their right to be involved in decisions about housing and accommodation. Children and young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness have strong legal protections, particularly those who are care experienced. Local authorities have a duty to provide suitable housing for 16- and 17-year-olds and young people leaving care, ensuring they are not placed in inappropriate accommodation.
This creative online course will help you navigate the new UNCRC Act and is designed for councils, housing associations and public service providers involved in housing and homelessness.
Cost : £75-£100 (limited free places for people without training budgets within organisations or for unwaged people and students).
