xArgentina ratifies Optional Protocol 3 to the UNCRC
Date: 14th April 2015
Category:
Optional protocol on a communications procedure
Argentina's ratification of the third Optional Protocol to the CRC on a communications procedure (OP3) means that there are now 17 State Parties to OP3.
A joint statement by the Ratify OP3 Coalition (of which Together is a member) and UN experts marked the first anniversary of the entry into force of the OP3. The statement called all States to commit to children's rights by ratifying the Protocol.
OP3 would give children a specific means through which they could seek a remedy if their rights were breached. However, the UK government has not signed the Optional Protocol and the Scottish Government is yet to make any commitment.
Together's 2014 State of Children's Rights report recommends that:
- The Scottish Government should set out its support for ratifying the Third Optional Protocol to the UNCRC.
- The UK Government should ratify the Third Optional Protocol to the UNCRC with immediate effect (as per 2012 and 2013 State of Children's Rights reports).
