WAR on hate crime: We’re All Responsible campaign

Hate crime goes against the protection of human rights. Quarriers are asking people to sign-up to support their WAR on hate crime campaign, to help ensure that children and adults with disabilities live full, happy lives free from abuse.

The campaign aims to:

• Raise awareness through asking people to sign up to support Quarriers' WAR on Hate Crime.
• Help people with learning disabilities to recognise and speak up about hate crime.
• Provide information on what to do if you are a victim of hate crime or witness hate crime taking place.
• Work to ensure that people with disabilities live full, happy lives free from abuse.

In 2008, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child recommended that UK governments 'Strengthen anti-discrimination activities, including awareness-raising, and take affirmative action where necessary to benefit vulnerable groups, including Roma and Irish traveller children, migrant, asylum-seeking and refugee children, LGBT children and children belonging to minority groups.'

Together's 2014 State of Children's Rights report highlighted that hate crime continues to be an issue that affects children and young people and particularly LGBT young people. This is a violation of the requirements on governments as enshrined in Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), to ensure that every child has their rights fulfilled irrespective of any status such as sex, language and religion.
