The Bill, which aims to secure provision of free period products throughout Scotland, passed Stage 1 on 25th February 2020.
This follows the publication of the Committee’s Stage 1 report in early February. The Scottish Parliament agreed to the general principles of the Bill and it has therefore progressed to Stage 2.
The Bill places a duty on Scottish Minister to ensure that period products are made available free of charge on a universal basis. It requires education providers to make period products available free of charge in on site toilets, and enables Scottish Ministers to place a duty on other public service bodies to provide free period products.
