xFinancial redress scheme for survivors of historical child abuse approved
Date: 8th April 2021
Category:
Protection from abuse or neglect

Survivors of historical child abuse in care will be able to apply for financial redress, via a scheme that will be set up under the Redress for Survivors (Historical Child Abuse in Care) (Scotland) Act.
This legislation aims to provide a tangible recognition of the harm caused to those who were abused as children in residential care settings in Scotland. Those who choose to apply may receive a fixed-rate redress payment of £10,000 or a more based on their experiences.
Applications will be open before the end of 2021 and this scheme will replace the Scottish Government's Advance Payment Scheme.
