Date: 24th June 2024
Category:
General measures of implementation, Disability, Basic Health and Welfare
This focus report reviews the barriers faced by marginalised groups at risk of poverty, particularly families with imprisoned members. In it, Scottish Government highlights challenges and effective strategies across three key poverty drivers: income, cost of living, and social support.
The report also outlined challenges faced when aiming to increase or reduce the three drivers of poverty. It states the barriers and challenges families of people in prison face in relation to child poverty and lastly what may work to best support families of people in prison, particularly around partnership working. Some of the areas of support includes greater financial support for families with a family member in prison; further opportunities for family bonding and provision for children of prisoners including family days, seasonal events, and special sessions; accessible information at the time of need, for example, greater awareness raising of the Scottish Welfare Fund.
