The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (‘UN Committee’) has recently held an election for new members to replace those whose terms will soon expire. Nine seats in the UN Committee will expire on 28th February 2025.

On 23rd May 2024, nine new members of the UN Committee were elected in New York. The new membership of the committee will take effect from the 1st of March 2025. Below is a list of the elected members:

  • Rinchen CHOPHEL, Bhutan, re-elected
  • Timothy P.T. EKESA, Kenya, first term
  • Mariana IANACHEVICI, Republic of Moldova, first term
  • Sopio KILADZE, Georgia, current member, re-elected
  • Cephas LUMINA, Zambia, re-elected
  • Juliana SCERRI FERRANTE, Malta, first term
  • Zeinebou Taleb MOUSSA, Mauritania, first term
  • Benoit VAN KEIRSBILCK, Belgium, current member, re-elected
  • Benyam Dawit MEZMUR, Ethiopia, current member, re-elected
