Three short, animated videos have been created to explain the key themes of the sentencing young people guideline.

The guideline applies to the sentencing of all those under the age of 25 at the time they pleaded (or were found) guilty. You can find out more about the guideline here.

The animations cover:

  • The importance of maturity in relation to the assessment of a young person’s culpability for an offence.
  • Why rehabilitation is a primary consideration in sentencing a young person.
  • The need for an individualised approach which considers each young person’s background and circumstances.

The Council hopes that the videos will help to raise awareness and understanding of the guideline and the issues it addresses.
