AI and children’s social care – does AI have a place in children's hearings and family law?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being considered as a way to improve services and support for children, young people and families who need help from children's social care and family justice systems.

In Scotland, the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration (SCRA) has published research exploring the ethical, legal and children's rights issues linked to the potential use of AI in and beyond the Children's Hearings System. The research looks at both the possible benefits and risks of using AI in these settings. The Nuffield Family Justice Observatory has also been exploring whether AI could improve the experiences of families and professionals involved in the family justice system in England and Wales. Its updated briefing encourages discussion about the opportunities, challenges and risks that AI could bring.

A webinar will bring together experts from SCRA and the Nuffield Family Justice Observatory to discuss the findings and consider what AI could mean for children, young people, families and professionals. There will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions.

The webinar is open to anyone with a professional or personal interest in supporting children and young people who need care and protection, and their families, in Scotland, across the UK and internationally.
