SYP announce CARE.FAIR.SHARE. campaign

Date: 23rd January 2014
Category: Family Environment and Alternative Care

The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) launched a new campaign on 23rd January 2014 to ensure that young carers are treated fairly by society and government policies.

The campaign also seeks to ensure that young carers situations should not prevent them from obtaining further education and engaging in social activities.

Several avenues will be pursued to alleviate financial strain on young carers during the campaign for 2014, including:

  • addressing anomalies in the administration of the Educational Maintenance Allowance that result in many young carers losing their EMA entitlement;
  • additional funding and bursary opportunities for young carers struggling to afford further education due to their caring responsibilities; and,
  • avenues to alleviate the cost of travel for young carers between school, work and home to fulfil their caring and education duties.

Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) will be campaigning locally and nationally this year. You can get involved today and advocate change for young carers across Scotland. There are further details about how you can get involved on the SYP website.
