Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People coordinated celebrations of the UNCRC on its 25th anniversary - 20th November 2014, helping to raise awareness and understanding of children's rights.

The digital strand of the campaign included using Twitter to tweet pictures of every letter to spell 'Happy Birthday UNCRC', giving the opportunity to highlight key developments in children's rights in Scotland.

A Pinterest board was also developed to raise awareness of the 25th birthday, which highlights some of the activities which took place on the 20th November 2014, Universal Children's Day.

A statement was released by Kirsten Sandberg, Chairperson of the Committee on the Rights of the Child at the 69th session of the General Assembly. Kirsten commented that we must ensure that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child keeps pace with the young people it was designed for.

Kirsten further commented that in the design and implementation of the post-2015 development agenda the voices of children must not only be heard, but their views and their rights must be reflected in the outcome. Children's real participation will only be possible if information is made available, if barriers are dismantled and if we commit to adapting our ways of working, to ensure accessibility.

Kirsten stated that "We need to create a culture of participation across all age brackets and ensure that our work here matches the human rights situation on the ground worldwide both now and in the future."
