Children in situations of exploitation
A new global report has highlighted the multiple forms of discrimination and barriers that affect girls today.
Child marriage is one of the major challenges that girls face. On current trends, 60 million girls will become child brides by 2020, curtailing their education, exposing them and their children to significantly increased risks in childbirth because their bodies are not ready for it, and limiting their opportunities for the future. Girls in humanitarian and fragile contexts are at far greater risk of being married.
Other issues identified are access to good quality sexual and reproductive health services, the freedom to speak out and to influence decisions, giving girls a chance to thrive through accountability, fair finance and equality.
