Human rights response to General Election announcement

Date: 2nd May 2017
Category: Other human rights treaties and mechanisms

Many questions have been raised following Theresa May's General Election announcement regarding human rights and protections. Responding to the announcement, the British Institute for Human Rights (BIHR) have written an initial response.

The BIHR have also done a round-up of commitments made by the main political parties in previous manifestos.

The BIHR will now be considering next steps in preparation for the election. It is a key opportunity for organisations to stand firm on human rights protections, and make it clear why the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights matter.
