The Children and Young People's Commissioner for Scotland has published his new Strategic Plan, which outlines the steps he and his office will take in the next two years to champion the rights of children and young people in Scotland.

The plan also highlights the values that will underpin the work of the Commissioner's office over the next two years, which were chosen after consultation with children and young people. These values are:

  • Bravery
  • Independence
  • Participation
  • Respect
  • Leadership

The aims of the plan were also developed after consultation with children and young people across Scotland. The three aims are:

  • To be a successful Children and Young People's Commissioner who makes a difference to the lives of children and young people;
  • To establish a culture of children's human rights;
  • To make sure that children's human rights are at the centre of laws, policies and practice.

To ensure the Strategic Plan was directly informed and influenced by the views of children and young people, the Commissioner put together a group of Young Advisors who advised on how the office could best communicate their goals and helped to evaluate what other children and young people across Scotland had told them. The Young Advisors also helped the Commissioner to lay the Strategic Plan before Scottish Parliament.
