During the Committee on the Rights of the Child’s review of Guinea, Committee member Mikiko Otani asked Guinea about the status of a bill on Human Rights Defenders which came about following an initiative from civil society.

The bill, drafted by civil society included a requirement for special protection of child human rights defenders. Mikiko Otani asked the State if this was being taken into consideration. This is an important follow-up action by the Committee which continues action from the 2018 Day of General Discussion on protecting and empowering children as human rights defenders.

Guinea responded that the bill was currently waiting to be debated in the National Assembly.
