Respect for the views of the child
On behalf of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, members Amal Aldoseri, Olga Khazova and Philip Jaffé recorded a video message addressed to the children who participated in consultations for drafting a new General Comment on children’s rights in relation to the digital environment.
About 650 contributions from children from 26 countries - 6 continents were received, representing the largest contributions received by the Committee! Child Rights Connect has praised the good practice of the Committee in providing feedback to children on how their views and inputs are valued and used.

General Comments are documents that give extra information to help interpret a UN treaty. They are produced by the UN Committees which oversees the relevant treaty (e.g. UNCRC, CEDAW). A General Comment can cover:
- a specific article (such as the UNCRC’s General Comment 12 on the right of the child to be heard); or
- an issue affecting children and young people that the Committee feels needs further guidance (such as the UNCRC’s General Comment 21 on children in street situations)
