Following a call for urgent action from the United Nations, the Scottish Government has set out what it is doing to ensure people on low incomes can access food.

The report from two United Nations Special Rapporteurs raised concerns about the alarming increase in food insecurity and poverty in the UK, particularly in families with children , and the lack of adequate measures to address this. Scottish Government’s response highlighted actions it is taking to:

  • Increase incomes.
  • Improve dignified and 'cash first' food insecurity responses.
  • Coordinate action on food policy.

UK Government has not yet responded to the United Nations report, which surpasses the 60-day period it was given to respond.
