Just under 1 million food parcels given to children last year

COVID-19 has led to an increase in food insecurity for many and latest Trussell Trust figures show that the past year has seen a 33% increase in need for food banks.

Trussell Trust’s latest report shows that food banks in its UK network gave more than 2.5 million emergency food parcels to people facing crisis between April 2020 and March 2021. More than 980,000 of these went to children. This amounts to almost two parcels on average every minute and shows a 36% rise in the need for parcels for children, compared with 2019/20.
