UPDATE ON UNCRC INCORPORATION WRITTEN ON A POST-IT NOTE

Scottish Government has reiterated its commitment to fully incorporate the UNCRC as a matter of urgency. The statement came as opposition parties united in calling for progress on the UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill following the UK Supreme Court’s judgment in June 2021.

In December, The Deputy First Minister wrote to the Education, Children and Young People Committee to say Scottish Government was working “through the full implications of the [Supreme Court] decision to ensure that incorporation can happen as quickly as possible with a high degree of confidence that any amendments to the Bill do not attract further challenge. […] As soon as it is possible to do so, we [Scottish Government] will explain our proposed response to the Supreme Court judgment and invite responses from targeted stakeholders to a small number of questions.”
