In light of the UK Government’s “Rights Removal Bill” being shelved, Scotland’s civil society organisations have written to the First Minister emphasising the urgent need for Scotland’s new Human Rights Bill. The letter asks for reassurance after Scottish Government announced a significant delay to public consultation on the proposed Bill.

Together, the Human Rights Consortium, JustRight Scotland and other organisations have asked the First Minister to give reassurance on the Scottish Government’s commitment to the incorporation of multiple international human rights treaties along with increased capacity to do this and a concrete timetable.

Other specific asks include more expertise to be given to the Human Rights Bill team, better transparency with civil society organisations and productive use of this added time to include the changes needed to deliver systematic change and to make justice and remedy genuinely accessible and achievable to individuals and groups.
