xWelsh Government publishes children’s rights position statement
Date: 13th October 2022
Category:
Wales-specific monitoring and reporting
The Welsh Government has published a report on progress made in Wales to implement the UNCRC ahead of the UK’s upcoming review by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in May 2023. Scottish Government is expected to publish its own report in coming weeks.
The report has been submitted as part of the UNCRC reporting cycle. This is a five-yearly process through which the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child checks up on the UK and devolved administrations’ progress in implementing children’s rights and makes recommendations for further improvement.
The UK Government submitted its official report in June 2022 with devolved administrations feeding into this. However, the Welsh Government has chosen to produce a supplementary report enabling it to describe actions in more detail than the word count of the UK report would allow.
The Scottish Government is currently drafting its own position statement and is expected to publish this in late November 2022.
