The OHCHR has published a statement made by Chair of the Committee on Rights of the Child, Mikiko Otani, who spoke in October on the importance of promoting a child rights-based approach, child rights mainstreaming, and revealed that there are no reports left to be reviewed under the Convention.
In the statement, Otani spoke about the importance of children's participation as a fundamental element of a child rights-based approach and the need to integrate and mainstream children's rights in all UN activities and programmes, across all three pillars: human rights, development and peace and security.
She shared that the UN Committee welcomes the Secretary-General's decision to develop a UN system-wide guide for mainstreaming children's rights in all aspects of the UN 's work and is committed to playing an active role in implementing the mainstreaming of children's rights.
