Hear from 51 people all from families affected by imprisonment as this report highlights the role played by prisons at creating, deepening and sustaining poverty.
The combined effect of the pandemic alongside the current cost-of-living crisis is having an extreme impact on families affected by imprisonment and release. The burden of care and costs falls disproportionately to women, and many spend half their income or more in costs relating to their family member’s imprisonment. The costs included things like travel, staying in touch, postage, paying money into personal accounts, and other costs associated with maintaining contact.
