Children have been sharing their opinions on the teacher strikes which have been rolling across the UK, and how parents and carers are coping with children being off school.
Journalists stopped parents and children on the streets and asked what they think about the teacher strikes. While parents and guardians acknowledge the struggle some families may face with lack of childcare support, the overwhelming response is support for teachers’ right to strike.
Children give the teachers unwavering support saying:
“The teachers deserve to be on strike to have more money”,
“I think they (teachers) need quite a higher raise because they are working so hard to educate children”.
Teachers in Scotland are striking for fairer pay with unions and the Scottish government currently in dispute.
The next national strike is due on 28 February and 1 March. Talks are ongoing and a new pay offer is expected early this week.
