reduce child poverty

Members of the End Child Poverty coalition in Scotland, alongside 150 other organisations including Together, are urging the First Minister Humza Yousaf to - as a first step - deliver on his commitment to increase the Scottish Child Payment to £30 per week.

The Scottish Government has poverty targets to meet by 2023, but substantial action and investment is urgently needed to realise this promise and to end child poverty.

The letter recognises the value of the policies already in place by the Scottish Government such as the introduction of the Scottish Child Payment, which is making a real difference in the lives of children across Scotland. The letter urges the First Minister to double down on the investment the Scottish Government is already making by ensuring the forthcoming budget resources the further action needed to deepen progress.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in its recent recommendations to the UK and Scottish Government on child poverty recommended the development of existing policies and to ensure that all children have an adequate standard of living.
