The Scottish Government has launched a consultation to gather public views on creating a universal definition of ‘care experience.’ The term, although not legally defined, holds special meaning for many who identify with it—ranging from young people to adults who feel it describes their personal background or identity.
According to The Promise, a shared understanding of “care experience” could help reduce stigma and normalise the concept, making it more relatable and understood. This universal definition would also clarify rights and entitlements for those who are Care Experienced, aiming to support their unique needs.
This is a part of Scotland's commitment to fulfil The Promise by 2030, and the Scottish Government is working with various partners to ensure this definition is inclusive and widely accepted. The government encourages individuals to participate in the consultation, helping shape how the term "care experience" is understood across Scotland.
