A new national campaign has been launched by the Scottish Government to encourage more people to consider becoming foster carers. It’s titled Ordinary can be extraordinary for a child in foster care, the campaign aims to show how simple, everyday moments can make a big difference in a child’s life.

Scotland is currently short of at least 400 foster carers, according to The Fostering Network. The campaign hopes to raise awareness about the positive impact of fostering and encourage more people to consider supporting a child or young person in care.

Launched at the start of Foster Care Fortnight, the campaign will run until the end of June with a new website and advice line available for anyone interested in learning more.

Speaking at the launch, First Minister John Swinney said:

“Foster carers play a vital role supporting and providing safe and loving foster homes to children and young people. They are key to our ambition of delivering The Promise by 2030.

“Across Scotland, foster carers provide stability, care and connection to support children and young people to thrive.
