xJoint Letter to the First Minister calls for Urgent Action on Scotland’s Health and Social Care Crisis

Over 200 health and social care organisations including Children First have written to the First Minister, warning that important services and support in Scotland are at breaking point. The open letter, led by the Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland (CCPS) and Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE), says decades of underfunding and rising demand mean many organisations face cuts, closures, or collapse within a few years.
The letter calls on the Scottish Government to act now by:
- Providing an immediate cash injection in the upcoming Spending Review.
- Creating a fully funded recovery plan to secure services for the future.
- Delivering multi-year funding with inflation-proof uplifts.
- Ensuring the sector is fully involved in decisions about planning and delivering care.
Mary Glasgow, Chief Executive of Children First said: "Children and families are losing services that have literally saved their lives, with funding for some Children First services, slashed by more than half. Families already tell us they have to “fight for support” to get the help their children desperately need.
"Alongside the lifeline services that the charity sector provides, we also play a unique role in championing the voices of the people we support and innovating to make sure their needs are met.
