The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) has issued a statement expressing its deepest concern over the catastrophic impact of the ongoing conflict in Gaza on children.
Ahead of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, the Committee expressed deep concern over widespread famine, with child malnutrition accelerating at an alarming pace and warned that without immediate and unrestricted humanitarian access, the crisis will worsen, and more children will die. Essential services such as clean water, sanitation and healthcare have collapsed, leaving children without the basic conditions necessary for survival.
“Confirmed reports indicate horrific levels of killing, maiming, and widespread violence against children. Countless children have lost parents, siblings, and extended family members, leaving them in profound grief and with extreme psychological trauma that will affect their lives for years to come,” UNCRC
The committee stressed that Israel’s actions represent violations of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and urged an immediate halt to attacks on Gaza.
The latest statement follows a series of previous statements by UNCRC, including Statements in September 2024 and May 2025, which condemned mass starvation of children, the obstruction of humanitarian aid and demanded a cease to the killing and injuring of Palestinian children in Gaza.
