General measures of implementation
Scotland’s children’s rights landscape is changing fast. In partnership with Dentons law firm, our weekly Monitoring Report highlights key developments you won’t want to miss. It includes the latest debates in Scottish Parliament, motions, questions, updates on Bills, and upcoming consultations.
The mailing list is an exclusive perk for our NGO member organisations.
The latest edition (26th-30th January) included updates such as:
-
Restraint and Seclusion in Schools (Scotland) Bill - Stage 1 update: The bill was introduced following evidence that children, often autistic or with learning disabilities, are being restrained or secluded in schools, sometimes repeatedly and without parents being informed.
-
First Minister’s Question Time: benefit spending and child poverty: The First Minister framed Scotland’s social security system as being rooted in “fairness and dignity”, explicitly stating that his government’s priority is lifting children out of poverty. He linked benefit spending to child wellbeing and argued that social security is a key tool in protecting children’s right to an adequate standard of living.
-
Whole-family support (Budget 2026-27): Emma Harper MSP highlighted support from Together member Children First; and Oxfam for new whole-family measures in the Scottish budget, describing them as a “lifeline” for families.
