Child-friendly, illustrated versions of thirty articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights have been published in the latest research guide for children and young people created by the OHCHR Library. The guide is available in plain English as well as the illustrated version and includes a child-friendly glossary of complex legal terms.

Families Outside is a national organisation that works exclusively on behalf of children and families affected by imprisonment in Scotland. Their aim is “to improve outcomes for children and families affected by imprisonment so they can live healthy, active lives free from stigma and disadvantage”.

The report outlines the assessments made during inspections of 17 custody centres about the treatment of and conditions for those detained in police custody centres across Scotland.

The Scottish Sentencing Council has published its Business Plan 2018-21 which outlines the Council’s aims for the next three years. These include aiming to complete sentencing guidelines relating to the sentencing process, the sentencing of young people, causing death by driving, and environmental and wildlife crime.

Eurochild has published its 2018 report on the European Semester, based on assessments provided by 23 Eurochild members in 18 countries. The report aims to highlight Member States’ progress in implementing the European Commission ‘Recommendation on Investing in Children: Breaking the Cycle of Disadvantage’ and the ‘European Pillar of Social Rights’. It provides an analysis of the extent to which children’s rights and wellbeing are being prioritised within the 2018 European Semester cycle and aims to provide policymakers at EU level with a child-centred perspective to evaluating countries’ progress towards economic and social objectives.

Franciscans International has launched a Toolbox which aims to support those interested in “connecting the dots” between human rights, sustainable development and climate action. Designed for non-governmental actors at regional, national and international levels, it aims to promotes a human rights-based approach to sustainable development, poverty eradication and environmental justice by highlight the importance of “highlighting the importance of rights-based monitoring of sustainable development/climate change policies and how violations of human rights can harm or hinder the implementation of SDGs and make people more vulnerable to climate change”.
