The roundtable on 3rd February brought together 17 members of the Children and Young People’s Panel on Europe, alongside representatives of the Scottish Youth Parliament and Young Scot, to discuss the important issues for children and young people following Brexit.

The conference, held on 3th December in Belfast, brought together almost 70 delegates from across Scotland, Northern Ireland, England, Wales, Jersey and other parts of Europe to explore developments taking place in each country to embed the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into law and policy.

The next examination of the UK’s progress in implementing the UNCRC will take place under the ‘Simplified Reporting Procedure”.  This will result in a new set of recommendations (known as Concluding Observations) from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2022. The workshop, held in Belfast on 2nd December, aimed to raise awareness and understanding of the new procedure, and support the coordination of civil society submissions. Participants included NGOs, children’s commissioners and devolved governments representatives from across the UK and Jersey.
