School students have led major protests in recent months against political inaction against climate change. Students were met with threats of punishment and disciplinary action for doing so during school time. Child Rights Connect has been following three resolutions at the Human Rights Council that were tabled on 14th March 2019 on empowering children with disabilities, recognising children as environmental human rights defenders and celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the UNCRC.

The Committee on the Rights of the Child continues to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UNCRC. The Committee is collaborating with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and organizing a series of activities throughout 2019 that aim to encourage States parties to renew their commitment to the Convention by putting children’s rights at the forefront of national agendas.
