This is part of the Universal Periodic Review process – where countries who are part of the United Nations review each other’s progress on putting human rights into practice.

Minimum age for marriage to be raised across England and Wales

The minimum age of marriage has will be raised from 16 to 18. This will also apply to religious and cultural marriages not registered with the couples' local council. Children will not face penalties under the new law, but adults who facilitate their marriage within England and Wales, or abroad could face a fine and up to seven years in jail.

New report and films ‘Peace at the heart: A relational approach to education in British schools’

Accompanying this report are six short films to showcase peace education in action. Joint statement on disabled children’s rights

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have expressed concern that discrimination against disabled children makes them disproportionately vulnerable to violence, including corporal punishment, neglect and abuse, in all settings, such as the family home, mental health, educational, or childcare institutions. Subsequently, the Committees call on States to urgently adopt comprehensive strategies to stop this.

Helping 16-19s find their unclaimed Child Trust Funds

If you support children and young people aged 16+, who were born in the UK from 1 st September 2002, then money may have been set aside for them that they can claim. Unclaimed Child Trust Funds could now be worth £1,000 or more per child.
