The minimum age of marriage has will be raised from 16 to 18. This will also apply to religious and cultural marriages not registered with the couples' local council. Children will not face penalties under the new law, but adults who facilitate their marriage within England and Wales, or abroad could face a fine and up to seven years in jail.

UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities have expressed concern that discrimination against disabled children makes them disproportionately vulnerable to violence, including corporal punishment, neglect and abuse, in all settings, such as the family home, mental health, educational, or childcare institutions. Subsequently, the Committees call on States to urgently adopt comprehensive strategies to stop this.
