Together has signed Amnesty’s joint statement on the UN Secretary-General’s fourth biennial report on the status of the treaty body system. This joint statement urges Member States to take practical steps, including ensuring sustainable funding, towards a better co-ordinated review calendar of all state parties’ implementation of their human rights obligations.

Civil society organisations, including Together, have written a letter to the First Minister asking for more resources which are needed for the development of Scotland’s new Human Rights Bill in order for it to succeed. The Scottish Government has since responded committing to funding the Bill “accordingly” but lacks sufficient detail.

The OHCHR has published a statement made by Chair of the Committee on Rights of the Child, Mikiko Otani, who spoke in October on the importance of promoting a child rights-based approach, child rights mainstreaming, and revealed that there are no reports left to be reviewed under the Convention.

In light of the UK Government’s “Rights Removal Bill” being shelved, Scotland’s civil society organisations have written to the First Minister emphasising the urgent need for Scotland’s new Human Rights Bill. The letter asks for reassurance after Scottish Government announced a significant delay to public consultation on the proposed Bill.
